Our Rating

8 / 10

Necessary to all our electronic arsenals is a variety of chargers: at home, in the car, in the office, in our backpack/bag, suitcase, etc. Wireless power banks add even more options that I couldn’t live without. My newest favorite power bank is the TORRAS Ostand Magnetic Battery Pack. It’s small, sleek and powerful.

Battery Packs that Change Your Life

Again, I depend on power banks. I don’t work next to an outlet, so I keep my iPad Pro powered via heavy-duty power banks. Along with that, everyone knows that I am likely carrying one in my purse at any given time – I even have a compact with a mirror that works as a power bank.

I receive many requests from people looking to borrow one. But in my testing of the TORRAS Ostand Magnetic Battery Pack, I found I could carry it more often than my other power banks, yet still have enough power.

I was sent two power banks for testing: 5,000mAh and 10,000mAh, with the latter of the two being understandably larger and heavier, though not by much, and still less than others I have/have used. The smaller of the two is so sleek, that while I couldn’t fit my iPhone or lip gloss in a tiny sequined purse for a night out on the town, I could fit the 5,000mAh battery pack.

Additionally, I sometimes carry my iPad in my purse or tote bag to work on the go. I don’t have room for a larger power bank, and if I do, it can still make it really heavy – but not with the larger TORRAS Ostand Magnetic Battery Pack.

Unboxing

Each of the TORRAS Ostand Magnetic Battery Packs shipped in a small box that contained a quick guide, safety guide, USB-C charging cable, and the power bank itself. There’s nothing to set up, of course. Just plug them in, charge them up, and you’re ready to go.

The smaller of the two didn’t take long to charge up at all. It wasn’t much more than an hour. There are a series of small round lights that indicate charging status – both the power bank and your device.

Basically, I was never waiting for either to charge up. They are always ready to charge, take with me, etc. Especially since I have two of them, there’s always one ready to go.

Charge Any USB-C Device

While the TORRAS Ostand Magnetic Battery Pack works best on iPhones that have the wireless charging on the back, they’ll work with any device with USB-C charging. The smaller of the two charges at 7.5W max, while the larger of the two charges at 15W max. The company reports that the 10000mAh can charge the iPhone 15 Pro Max 1.5 times.

For iPhones with wireless charging, the power bank attaches to the back of it magnetically and is held there securely. Though, if you put your phone with the power bank attached in your bag to take on the go, it may slip off while charging. While the instructions discuss the need to hit the button to get it to start, I don’t have to do that.

To charge other devices, just use the included USB-C cord to attach the power bank to your device. Though, the included cable is a little short for use. I have used the larger of the two power banks to charge my iPad Pro while I work away from home. I don’t know if it would be enough to completely charge it from 0% to 100%, but it is enough to keep it from dying when using it for four hours.

Use the O-Ring Stand as an Easel

The extra feature on the TORRAS Ostand Magnetic Battery Pack is the O-ring stand. It allows you to charge your phone while also streaming a new blockbuster movie, watching YouTube videos, reading social media, etc.

The ring is safely nestled into the power bank for normal use. You’ll barely know it’s there. But it easily pops out for use. You can swing it out up to 120º and rotate it 360 degrees, giving you multiple options.

Torras Ostand Power Bank Standby

It works really great for iOS’s Nightstand/Standby feature. Once you set your phone on it, it goes into the Standby or Nightstand mode. And the best part is that it’s charging the whole time. This worked really well for the smaller of the two chargers.

However, it seemed that the larger one had a bit too much heft to it. It wouldn’t stay attached magnetically in horizontal mode when using the O-ring stand. And since it wouldn’t stay attached, the Standby screen wouldn’t turn on.

Final Thoughts

Full disclosure: we don’t review many chargers or power banks at Make Tech Easier, as many times there just isn’t enough to say about them to quantify a review. They need to present something a little different, and I felt the TORRAS Ostand Magnetic Battery Pack did that.

These power banks are powerful, yet small, especially the larger of the two. It really packs a lot of power. They’re so convenient. I no longer have to carry my heavy, large power banks with my iPad Pro and can opt for the 10,000mAh TORRAS. If I’m worried my phone will run out while I’m gone, I slip the slim 5,000mAh TORRAS in my purse, whether it’s small or large.

I found that each power bank had situations where it excelled. Again, the larger one wasn’t great for Nightstand/Standby mode, yet it excelled in other ways. The smaller of the two isn’t enough to keep my iPad Pro charged, but it, too, excelled in other ways.

You can pick up the TORRAS Ostand Magnetic Battery Pack 5,000mAH for $59.99 and the TORRAS Ostand Magnetic Battery Pack 10,000mAH for $82.30.
